Out Walkin’ Music Video

GOAL:
Create and animate a music video capturing the vibe of the song Out Walkin’ by Elliott BROOD.

MY TAKE:
I had the opportunity to write, direct, animate, and edit a music video for the Canadian band Elliott BROOD to their song ‘Out Walkin’. I was tasked with creating a stop-motion style video that brings the lyrics and story to life. I used mostly paper for the character and backgrounds with a few extra bits and pieces to add a whimsical flare to the video. The end product is a mixed-media music video that takes the viewer through the story of a forbidden love in the forest.

Test Animations:

Then I created some test animations so that I could work out exactly how the characters would move, and test how I wanted them to look.

Planning:

My process started with a client breif where I learned about the band and what exactly they were looking to get out of this collaboration. I annotated the lyrics of the song as a brain storm session to gather my thought and ideas.

Storyboard:

I then moved into storyboarding. After presenting my idea to the band and record label, I began to construct all my puppets. I designed all my sets, and production began.

Character & Scene Building:

Throughout the shooting process, I stayed insteady communication with the client and sent the process updates along the way, making sure they where able to give feedback along the way. I spent about 2 months capturing the action, one picture at a time. The editing process had a bit of a learning curve, but through this project I learned how to sync music with video.
