CHANNELS Stop-Motion Animation - Motion Design - Video Editing

PROJECT BRIEF:

Create a full length music video for Elliott BROOD in a stop-motion style that brings the lyrics and story of the song to life.

MY TAKE:

I used paper and paper cutouts to create the scenery and characters, as well as small found objects to create a whimsical sense of dimension. I had the opportunity to write, direct, animate, and edit this music video.

PROCESS:

My process started with a client breif where I learned about the band and what exactly they were looking to get out of this collaboration. I annotated the lyrics of the song as a brain storm session to gather my thought and ideas. Then I created some test animations so that I could work out exactly how the characters would move, and test how I wanted them to look. I then moved into storyboarding. After presenting my idea to the band and record label, I began to construct all my puppets. I designed all my sets, and production began. Throughout the shooting process, I stayed insteady communication with the client and sent the process updates along the way, making sure they where able to give feedback along the way. I spent about 2 months capturing the action, one picture at a time. The editing process had a bit of a learning curve, but through this project I learned how to sync music with video.
