This song has haunted me since I first heard it because I’ve always imagined making visuals like this that go with it, but I’ve never felt like I had the skills until now. The very first thing that I did for this project was edit my audio clip. The opening of the original song is about 1 minute long, and I had to trim it down to about 30 seconds for attention grabbing, and tension building purposes. Since I already knew the sound I wanted to use before even starting the project, I jumped straight to moodboarding and finding my visual direction. I researched different tour announcement videos and found language and type inspiration.
Storyboard:
Then I began storyboarding. Since I wanted to create a video that matches the feeling of the audio, this part of the process consisted of a lot of listening to the clip, and drawing a few frames, then listening to the clip again. It was a lot of repeating of this sequence until I drew out a solid storyboard that followed the feeling of the song. Then I pulled it into Illustrator and blocked in the colors so that I would have some general shades to work with.
Designing & Rendering:
Finally I dove into Cinema 4D, creating and lighting each scene individually, and rendering them out. I took the renders and put them into After Effects to sync them to the music and add the typography. After a few iterations, I arrived at the final product!
