Locals Rule


CHANNELS Brand Identity  - Motion Design 




GOAL:
Create a motion branding system including logos, advertising, events graphics, etc. for a made up event.

MY TAKE:
Locals Rule is an amateur surf competition that travels to coastal towns to uplift local surfers and engage the community. Each event raises money for different charities and has boardwalk activities for the whole family to enjoy! With local surfing legends judging, and local artists performing, the vibes are electric. This year Locals Rule is taking place in Venice Beach, California and will be raising money for the Pancreatic Cancer Foundation in honor of the 35th anniversary of the cult classic movie Point Break. 

I went into this project with a general aesthetic idea in mind. I knew that I wanted to try something that I wouldn’t normally do, which is create a motion piece entirely digitally. This was the challenge I set for myself to expand my skillset. I knew I wanted this brand to be vibrant, yet simple.  Something that had relaxing vibes. I created a grid system that could fluctuate like water, and keep information organized against the vibrant  colors. Along with the grid I designed a system of icons, and logo variations to be used throughout the applications.
